What is Rowing?A water sport that uses all major muscle groups to propel a boat forward. Rowing boats are the fastest muscle powered craft on the water, and are not to be confused with canoes which only utilize the upper body to move the boat. Rowers use long oars to lever the boat using most of the power provided by the leg drive, this is why we face “backwards” when we row! Why Row?
Other Benefits of Rowing.
Why a Learn to Row program? The ERGfit Learn 2Row program can be used as a ‘stand-alone’ introduction to rowing, or as preparation to joining Essendon Rowing Club as a social rower or competition rower with the use of many club boats and other facilities. This program recognises that people are able to make different levels of commitment: while some may want to take part in full competition, others would like to keep fit and experience rowing in a structured, fun and social environment. What do we offer?
Each session consists of a 1:15 hour session which covers basic rowing principles and technique exercises. Lessons are held on six consecutive Sunday mornings at 8:30 am and rowers are asked to arrive approximately 10 minutes early to stretch and warm up. Please be aware that we row in most weather conditions - if we have to cancel the session due to extreme conditions we'll make alternative arrangements Rowing is a disciplined sport, you are required to notify ERGfit if you cannot attend a session. The actual work covered in each session will vary with most of the training done in Fours, but you should be prepared for anything! |

There are 4 rowing programs available however, if you have NO previous rowing experience you must start with the Beginner Learn 2Row program. All programs are explained on the back of this brochure.
