Open Day 2011

With another season upon us, the club celebrated it’s opening with our annual ‘Open Day’ at the club on Sunday 9th October.

The clubs rowers were out enforce with the clubs races on four oar boats the feature event of the morning of the clubs Henley course. After wards at the presentations, the club welcomed a couple of new boats to the fleet with the introduction of two Swift Double scull christen in the name of two long severing members in Erin Smart and Jeff Walker.

Erin Smart joined the club as a junior rower and took to the sport like a duck to water. She quickly rose through the ranks and completed for the club at the highest level winning no less than three Australian Championships along the way. Her rowing contributions for the club saw also named in the clubs Women’s Crew of the century As well as her on water success, Erin also held roles on the club committee and as Treasurer amongst others and still competes today with the girls senior squad at the club.

Jeff Walkers relationship with the club has been a long and colorful. Jeff first joins the club in the early eighties as a coxswain of the club. He naturally progress to the rowing in junior ranks and competition with the clubs successful lightweight program in the early 90’s. Jeff has represented the club at a National level finishing fifth in the Men’s Lightweight double scull with Stuart Smart. Jeff has continued to row at the club and taken major coaching roles in the women’s program continuing to enjoy success.
