Attached is the Notice of Meeting for the 146th ERC Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in our function room at 10:00am on Sunday, 16th August. Please note the clubrooms will be open from 9:30am for members to sign in.
Members are reminded that proxy voting is not allowed under Rule 34(1) of the ERC constitution.
Nominations for the 2026/27 ERC Committee are also open and will close at 5:00pm on Sunday, 2nd August.

| Membership renewals season 2026/27: |
Members are reminded that 2026/27 membership renewals were due to be paid by 30th June. If you haven't renewed your membership as yet could you please organise for payment to be made asap. Your RV subscription cannot be renewed until your membership has been paid, therefore unfinancial members are currently not covered by RV insurance.

Save the date for our next Thursday Night dinner which will be held on Thursday, 6th August, to be hosted by the Senior Womens Squad.
On the menu will be pulled pork sliders, seasoned wedges and chocolate brownies (Vegetarian option available as always).

There are a couple of notable changes to this seasons calendar, such as the Rutherglen regatta being brought forward to Saturday and Sunday, 31st October-1st November, and the Eildon Ponderosa to be held in January 2027.

| First Aid Accreditation for Coaches: |
On Saturday 27th June, some of our coaches and Captain's Team, kindly volunteered more of their time to complete a First Aid and CPR course. This initiative was driven by the Captain's Team to ensure our rowers and members are provided with quality first aid assistance, should anyone need immediate care from injury or a health incident.

Last weekend Dion Mitchell, Lachlan Bird, Elizabeth Drew-Finn, Emma Stevenson and our Vice-Captain, Lisa Gandolfo braved the cold again to compete in the 'dress ups' 5th round of this year's Winter Sculling competition.
Dion is currently leading the charge, sitting on 31 points and 4th on the points ladder.

For those of you who get a bit peckish after a morning or afternoon workout or a row, from tomorrow you will be able to purchase a healthy snack from a vending machine that has been hired by the club. The machine will be located on the back wall of Bay 4 and will take card payments only (no cash).

It is great to see both the Smiths Coxed Quad/Four and the TJ-Z 2X back in the shed after spending time at Rowpairs getting overhauled. Likewise, the Chris Hammon 2X/2- is now getting a full makeover and will be back in service soon.

A special shout out to Mick Dwyer for constructing our new scull rigger holder.
The mobile rigger holder can be rolled in and out of the club as needed, and is a vast improvement on the former arrangement, where riggers were stored under boats and under foot.

Q1: Why did you join ERC?
I only started rowing because ERC exists! My parents (Frank & Marion Camiller) were connected with the club first. As a kid, I did a bit of gymnastics and basketball, then a year of taekwondo in year 10 but I was a bit too timid and would say 'sorry' every time I kicked my sparring partner - so that didn't work. I knew I wanted to do something to challenge myself and the following year when I was 16, Frank suggested I give rowing a try. I was extremely nervous, but everyone at ERC was so friendly, and I just loved the feeling of moving a boat through the water and forgetting about the weight of the day. The club quickly became a place of comfort, good times and life-long friends. It gave me an avenue to strive for something special, and the lure of trying to master that perfect stroke became my passion.
I only recently named my 34 year old boat "Lighter" which is how I feel after rowing - something Marion reminded me I used to say how rowing made me feel so many years ago.
Q2: What do you do outside of rowing?
Besides full time work at the Victorian Institute of Sport, I like going to cafes with friends, watching movies with my two big kids Dion and Anabelle, visiting family, tending to my native garden and walking my dog. Oh, and DIY house projects (with a little help from our club tradies!)
Q3: Some fun facts about you?
I've lived and rowed in a few places across Australia - the AIS in Canberra, UTS in Sydney, and Huon Rowing Club in southern Tasmania where my kids were later born.
I skydived over Nagambie during the 2002 Aus Rowing Champs - best fun ever!
Q4: Favourite time of day on water?
Sunrise
Q5: Where in the world would you like to row?
I'm lucky to have rowed at some of the most beautiful courses in the world, including Lucerne, Varese and of course Lake Barrington, but next on my list is New Zealand! I've never been, and I'd love to race at a Masters regatta and tour around by bike one day.
Q6: Best piece of advice you have been given?
My favourite is "Put your big girl pants on!"
Q7: Most memorable rowing experience?
Apart from the highs and lows of national lightweight rowing, the funniest moment was not long ago in the marshalling area at Aussie Masters Champs. A woman stood up in her quad, used a shewee and was cheered on by fifty other women. In that moment, we were all celebrating each other - for doing what we love at any age, challenging ourselves at the highest level and raising each other up along the way.

Essendon Rowing Club acknowledges with sadness the passing of social member Alan Haynes, aged 68.
Alan was a respected member of the rowing community and held social membership with ERC from 2014 to 2017. During his association with the Club, he was a valued supporter, introducing Swift rowing boats to ERC through his work as a sales representative and generously assisting with the transport of club boats. He towed the boat trailer to both Tasmania and assisted with towing to Perth for the Australian Masters Rowing Championships, helping ensure our crews and equipment arrived safely for competition.
Beyond Essendon, Alan made a significant contribution to Footscray City Rowing Club, where he served as Captain, President and was recognised as a Life Member. In his younger rowing years, he was a formidable competitor, earning the respect of fellow athletes through his commitment and ability on the water.

ERC have been advised that ex-member Trevor Paul has passed away.
Trevor joined ERC in the 1980/81 season and stayed a member until 1988. He won his first event in a Novice Four at Essendon Sprint Regatta in 1981 and went on to win 8 novice events for that season. He was awarded the Club Selection Committee Trophy at the Annual Presentation Awards.
In the 1982/83 season he won only two single scull events, but one was in the higher maiden division at Nagambie Regatta in 1982.
In 1983/84 season Trevor was elected Deputy Vice Captain, a position on the club committee. He had a great season winning approx 11 events including a number of Light Weight Junior events (now A Grade equivalent) as well as Open Eights and Junior Eights. This included a trip to the National Championships at Lake Barrington in Tasmania. Trevor was again awarded the Club Selection Committee Annual Trophy.
In the 1984/85 season he was elected Vice Captain and had another outstanding year with approximately nine wins in both Open and Junior eights, with finally a win in the Challenge Club Fours at the National Championships at Ballarat in April 1985.
Trevor is recorded as being an active coach in the 1986/87 season, and is remembered as doing some coaching of the younger rowers during his final years at ERC.
Trevor's last on-water win is recorded as the Open Eight challenge event against Footscray Rowing Club at their regatta held in 1987. |

Please ensure that you have working lights affixed to your boat if you are planning on training before daylight or past dusk.
Remember, blinking on the stern and continuous on the bow.

Please contact or see the Captain's team if you require heavy duty Velcro to stick to the back of your lights so they are compatible with the Velcro on our boats.
