Adult Learn to Row

Adult Learn2Row Program

Want to give rowing a try?  Well join our Learn 2 Row program at Essendon Rowing Club.  This program is for beginners with no previous experience. Come along by yourself or with friends.  The Maribrynong is a scenic and quiet river which makes it a great place to learn to row.  Plus there is free parking right beside the club.

All sessions will be conducted in groups of 4.

By the end of the program you will be able to:

  • perform the basic rowing technique
  • manoeuvre the boat on the water
  • row as a crew

The program is run by Essendon Rowing Club members who are qualified coaches.

Pre Requisite

Adult Learn to Row participants should be a minimum of 18 years old, able to swim at least 50 metres unassisted and be of good general health.

What to wear and bring

Rowers sit on a sliding seat in a narrow boat so it is essential that you wear clothing that allows you to move freely but is not baggy so as to avoid getting caught in the moving parts of the boat.  In the summer months, please put on sunscreen and wear a hat and sunglasses.  In the cooler months, it is best to layer your clothing. Always bring a bottle of water with you.  You will need to wear socks and runners for the erg component of the sessions.

Cost

The program runs for four sessions (each session is 90 mins) and costs $200. This cost covers all coaching and equipment.

When and where

All sessions take place at the Essendon Rowing Club, 48 The Boulevard, Moonee Ponds.  Sessions will commence at 9:30am on Sundays and will finish at 11:00am.
