BOAT RAMP UPDATE

Thank you to everyone who had their say on the BBV website survey, writing to the various leaders and authorities on the boat ramp proposal. BBV have not explained how the survey information will be used and how, or if the results will be reported accurately or communicated to stakeholders.

The next step BBV have taken is to form a Community Reference Group (CRG) and both Essendon and Footscray rowing clubs have agreed to join the group. Rowing Victoria have been made aware of the CRG and their assistance will be requested as necessary.   There is a risk that involvement in the CRG is observed as supporting the ramp and be misrepresented in the media. I wish to assure members that from the outset that a clear and unambiguous statement will be made that the rowing club does not support the ramp.

Further development - an e-petition request was lodged by the 'Stamp Out The Ramp' group to the parliamentary Legislative Council office.

To view and sign the petition access the link below:

No new boat ramp on the Maribyrnong River in Ascot Vale. Your e-petition is now number 338. Here is the link:

BUNNINGS BBQ FUNDRAISER

Sunday the 16th May, Essendon Rowing Club held a fundraising event at the Highpoint Bunnings sausage sizzle. This day was a huge success in many aspects from our ERC volunteers enjoying a fun day together, to connecting with the local community and raising a huge profit for the club of almost $1500.

The day ran very smoothly with each team working very hard to make it a success! Thanks to Rob for purchasing and delivering some of our goods, Peter for the yummy sausages (customers came back for seconds!), the set up team of Cindy, Lou, Rick and Judy, the pack up team of Matt, Angus, Gabby and Dale, and our engine room teams of Don, Tim Grogan, Emma, Steph, Bronti , Morgan and a particular mention to our lunchtime rush team of Fed, Nina, Lou and Judy to pull together for a take away order of 20 sausages in bread with sauce and onions on the side (that was pressure)! Thank you also to the extra volunteers who arrived but were not needed due to our covid restrictions of numbers allowed in the tent.

AUSTRALIAN MASTERS ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS - ADELAIDE 27/5/21 to 30/5/21

ERC has a small team of 5 rowers (Judy Armstrong, Lisa Gandolfo, Bill Nugent, Stewart Allsop, Tim Juzefowicz) competing at the AMRC being held at West Lakes in Adelaide. This time of year, the weather at West Lakes can be challenging and hopefully racing won't be interrupted and racing goes to schedule.

The regatta is smaller than previous national events but is still a busy program, with 197 events, 1211 entries, 5702 seats and 644 athletes.  ERC representation at the regatta has a particular highlight with Bill Nugent, representing Victoria in the Interstate Mens Quad Scull, in stroke seat and Tim Juzefowicz as coach.  This will be Bill's 18th representation for Victoria and is an outstanding moment for ERC! Congratulations Bill.

The Victorian Interstate Women's Eight is coach by Chris Hammon and Jeff Walker has been assistant coach.  Both the women's and men's interstate quads and eights demonstrated what they can do at the Victorian Championships in the one race as a handicap event. A thrilling finish hard fought to the last stroke.

Crews are now we are in the final stages of training and preparations.  Go the 'Big V'.
